When a Southern vintage fashionista meets a ghostly socialite, she goes rummaging for clues to catch a killer in this cozy mystery series debut.

Cookie Chanel has opened her own vintage clothing boutique in the charming town of Sugar Creek, Georgia. Always on the lookout for stylish second-hand steals, she attends the estate sale of deceased socialite Charlotte Meadows. But she gets a lot more than she bargained for when Charlotte's ghost appears before her—offering fashion advice and begging Cookie to find out who murdered her.

As the persistent poltergeist tags along and a possibly psychic pussycat moves into the shop, Cookie sorts through racks of suspects to see who may be hiding some skeletons in the closet. Do Cookie and Charlotte have a ghost of a chance of collaring a killer—or will Cookie's life be the next one hanging by a thread?

Vintage clothing store owner Cookie Chanel heads over to the estate sale for the late Charlotte Meadows, the biggest realtor in Sugar Creek, SC. Over the racks of classic Chanel, Dior, and Jimmy Choos, Cookie encounters Charlotte's ghost, who is intent on finding out who killed her. The suspects are numerous: her former business partner, Marie Vance; Cindy Johnson, fashionista wannabe; or Vernon Olsen, the man following Cookie all over town. Assisted by best friend, Heather, and a fluffy white Angora cat who may have otherworldly abilities, Cookie investigates, stumbling across the body of PI Edward Anderson and adding her name to the list of suspects. The delectable police detective Dylan Valentine is more than interested. VERDICT Prolific mystery author Pressey ("Haunted Renovation" series) launches a cozy alternative to Terri Garey's "Nicki Styx" series with an appealing protagonist who is as sweet as a Southern accent. The designer name-dropping and shopping tips from Cookie adds allure for shopaholics.
